A hardy group of drinkers gathered at Fin Seafood in Newport News for the first Bar School of the year. Fittingly, given the timing, the lessons focused on drinks that could help you recover from a rollicking New Year’s. Head mixologist Robert Gregory walked the students through two tipples: the Beyonce Cleanse, a crisp, spicy tequila drink made with turmeric, honey, lemon and cayenne pepper; and the Sour Power, a bourbon drink that blends Elijah Craig with a house citrus blend and simple syrup made from pandan and agave. Both are perfect for imbibing while hungover. Students also received a tutorial on artisanal ice from Matt Jones of Chisel & Shaker, while enjoying delicious appetizers of tuna tartare and octopus.
